United Way of Greater Union County was awarded a $35,000 Planning Grant from The Grotta Foundation to create senior friendly communities in Union County. The grant will be in partnership with Springpoint Senior Living and the City of Plainfield. The Grotta Foundation has awarded more than $4.4 million in grants to over 55 agencies from 2003 to present. The goal of the Grotta Grant is to implement projects that make measurable and sustainable changes at the community level to benefit older adults. Following a review of this planning grant and final reports, lead organizations will be selected to apply for a two year Implementation Grant for $50,000.
This program will mark the beginning of UWGUC's work with a new age group in the “Focus on Families” age continuum of birth to adulthood. UWGUC is proactively seeking partnerships and resources to provide services in education, income, and health for infants, children, youth, adults, and now seniors.
