LAUNCH OF NEW INITIATIVE PROMISES TO MAKE PLAINFIELD
AN AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY FOR OLDER ADULTS
MAY 2017 – PLAINFIELD, NJ - United Way of Greater Union County has partnered with the City of Plainfield and Springpoint Senior Living to launch a new initiative designed to improve livability, increase access to resources and promote sustainable independence for older adults in the City of Plainfield.
The launch of Lifelong Plainfield, will take place at the Plainfield Seniors-Living Healthy event on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Plainfield Tower West located at 601 West 7th Street in Plainfield. The event is free, open to the public and attendees can expect various activities including health screenings, Zumba and Yoga lessons, food demonstrations, a farmers market and give-a-ways. Several leaders are expected to attend including the city’s Mayor Adrian O. Mapp will share his vision for LifeLong Plainfield. He will share his vision for creating an age-friendly community, it’s importance to the city, and why it is a vital initiative for all residents.
After surveying over 300 Plainfield seniors and hosting various focus groups with seniors and caregivers, data concluded that that the three top priority areas for seniors in Plainfield are: better access to fresh food, having access to a variety of transportation options, and timely information on community resources and activities.

Lifelong Plainfield, funded by the Grotta Foundation for Senior Care, seeks to identify services, provide resources, and enact policies to make Plainfield a more age-friendly community. The goal is to meet the needs of all Plainfield Senior Citizens, to increase awareness and build public will for an age-friendly community, fostering the development of policies and services designed to help seniors to live safely, enjoy good health and stay active and involved.
