UNITED WAY OF GREATER UNION COUNTY RECIEVES $35,000 GRANT FROM THE GROTTA FOUNDATION TO HELP DEVELOP AN AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITY IN PLAINFIELD
Plainfield, NJ--- United Way of Greater Union County, which aims to provide health and human service resources for residents throughout Union County, is surveying and seeking input from Plainfield residents ages 62 and over on what they think they may need as they age. United Way of Greater Union County will spearhead this initiative in collaboration with Springpoint Senior Living and the City of Plainfield Recreation Service Department.
This initiative is part of a $35, 000 award granted to United Way of Greater Union County from the Grotta Foundation, a foundation that funds programs that benefit older adults and their families and help them to age in place independently, safely, and with dignity. The goal of the Grotta Grant is to implement projects that make measurable and sustainable changes at the community level to benefit older adults. Since 2003, Grotta has awarded approximately $4 million in grants to 55 agencies serving seniors living in Essex, Union, Morris, Sussex, and eastern Somerset County, NJ.
UWGUC, with the support of the Visiting Nurse Services, develop a survey designed to gather data on the health and well being of the Plainfield senior community. UWGUC aims to reach at least 500 seniors in the next 5 weeks and is seeking support from the community at large. The data collected will be analyzed and a report will be produced with recommendations on how Plainfield can become an Age Friendly Community where communities become great places for all ages by adopting such features as safe, walkable streets; better housing and transportation options; access to key services; and opportunities for residents to participate in community activities.
